We recently had the joy of visiting a local orphanage to host a wonderful "Turkmenistan Culture Day." It was a heartwarming event that brought together the children and our JICEF volunteers for an unforgettable journey into the heart of Central Asia. It was a day filled with new discoveries, delicious food, and joyful smiles!
Discovering Turkmen Heritage
We started our adventure by learning about the unique symbols of Turkmenistan. The children were fascinated to hear stories about the magnificent Akhal-Teke horses, the loyal Alabay dogs, and the incredibly detailed, world-famous Turkmen carpets. We also explored their rich culinary traditions, setting the stage for a delicious afternoon.

A Feast of Traditional Flavors
The highlight of the day was heading to the kitchen! Together with the kids, we made a delicious traditional pastry called borek. Our dining table was a true feast, featuring not only the freshly baked borek but also authentic Turkmen pilaf, savory samsa, and traditional Turkmen bread.
Games, Crafts, and Creativity
After the meal, the energy was high as the children played a traditional Turkmen game. We also set up a special corner showcasing beautiful handmade Turkmen jewelry and accessories, which the kids examined with great curiosity.
For our craft activity, everyone gathered in groups to make colorful bracelets using traditional Turkmen threads. It was heartwarming to see the children working together and creating their own little souvenirs.
A Sweet Ending on Turkmenistan Culture Day
We wrapped up this beautiful day by enjoying traditional Turkmen sweets together. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped us bring so much joy to these children while building another bridge of cultural understanding. Stay tuned for our next cultural adventure!
